The Taiyo Circle is a Japanese language and popular culture project. We create content, activities, and events for fans who learn and learners who have fun.
A small group of Japanese class learners (and Haikyu!! fans) founded Taiyo in April 2017. Taiyo developed and facilitated Japanese classes through a partner school, then as an independent provider, until 2025.
Over the past few years, Taiyo connected with fellow learners on social media through original posts on the Japanese language with manga, anime, and pop culture references. Taiyo tried new things to reach more learners and fans with a podcast in 2020 and knowledge sharing sessions in 2021.
Taiyo held its first major event, Taiyo Day, in August 2025, and the first doujinshi convention in the country, Doujin Expo, in April 2026.
Through new partnerships and collaborations, Taiyo aims to bring more ways to educate, uplift, and inspire those who learn and love anything Japanese.
